Director – Commercial, Procurement and Contracts

About Us

***APPLICATIONS FOR THIS ROLE HAVE NOW CLOSED***

Human Engine is a Financial Times top-ranked management consultancy with specialisms in strategy, change, digital, commercial and projects.

We started in 2018 because we believed the public sector deserved better from consulting – more personal, more human and more knowledgeable of the realities of modern public services.  All consulting firms say they’re different – with a founding team that came from within the public sector, the Human Engine difference is that we’ve seen it, done it and been on the sharp end of change.

We are a small but quickly growing company that works with clients in local government, central government, the NHS, charitable and regulatory sectors.  In fact, quickly growing is an understatement – we’re doubling the size of our consulting workforce and looking for exceptionally talented and passionate people to join us

About the Role

Commercial, procurement and supply chain consulting has been a big part of our business from the very start.  From tackling modern slavery in supply chains with the Crown Prosecution Service to identifying £millions of savings for local authorities, this area of work is an important part of our history and our future.  We’re looking for a new Director to lead this established area of the business and take it to the next level.  There are ambitious and challenging targets, with a generous compensation package in return.

We’re looking for someone who can grow this area of the business, by both expanding our existing presence in local government and diversifying into new markets.  At the same time, you’ll work with the Managing Director to grow a team capable of delivering outstanding services to clients.  You’ll then lead the team throughout delivery, overseeing all aspects of our work in this business unit – from the commercials to the quality of outcomes, making sure every project represents great value for us and for our clients.

The Successful Candidate

We’re looking for a very experienced leader who is confident they can deliver the mission above.  You might come with a consulting background or from within the public sector – this doesn’t matter so long as you can demonstrate a real entrepreneurial flair alongside deep subject matter expertise and a track record of successful delivery.

Because business growth is such a key part of this role, it’s essential that candidates have a successful history of leading business development, sales and growth.  It’s imperative that you know the public sector and how it does business, as well as understanding the economics of the consulting industry.  Ideally, you’ll have a strong network of relevant people who could be prospective clients to supplement the other avenues through which we secure work.

You’ll need to be an expert in your subject matter, too.  The successful candidate will not only be our most senior procurement and commercial specialist, but the most expert, too – the rest of the team will look to you for guidance on a range of topics as we deliver projects for clients.

Last but not least, you’ll be great with people.  You’ll be able to build up fantastic rapport with clients that leads to better outcomes and lasting relationships.  You’ll also be a great fit with the culture at Human Engine, which is all about providing a high degree of support and high degree of challenge to colleagues and clients alike.

What We Offer

  • £100k salary plus up to £20k bonus

  • Company pension scheme

  • 28 days paid holiday plus UK bank holidays

  • Flexible working – home-based and with flexible hours when not on client site

  • Regular, all expenses paid team get-togethers – both business and social

  • Work that makes a difference, with clients who give us consistently great feedback

  • Community-based company culture, with high degrees of responsibility, collaboration and support
